Prestige Care Inc., a prominent senior-care provider operating across the western United States, has reported a significant data breach incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. The breach, discovered by Prestige Care, involved unauthorized access to their computer network, potentially compromising sensitive information of individuals, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical details, and health insurance information.

The breach, detected on September 7, 2023, triggered an immediate investigation by Prestige Care. Subsequent findings revealed the intrusion involved malware infecting their network, restricting access to specific files within the system. Investigation results indicated that unauthorized access might have occurred on the same day, potentially exposing personal and health-related data.

Upon confirming the breach’s impact on residents and employees, Prestige Care diligently assessed compromised files to identify leaked information. Affected individuals were then notified through data breach letters dispatched on November 6, 2023, outlining the specific information compromised in the incident.
