Pulaski County Public Schools (PCPS) announced today that it has been the victim of a cyberattack. The attack was detected on Sunday, and PCPS immediately contacted cybersecurity experts to investigate.
The investigation determined that the attack involved ransomware, a type of malware that encrypts files and demands a ransom payment to decrypt them. PCPS is working with cybersecurity experts to restore its systems and retrieve any lost data.
Despite the attack, PCPS plans to resume normal operations on Wednesday. The All-In-Tutoring program will now begin on Monday, November 13th.
“We are working diligently to restore our systems and minimize any disruption to our students and staff,” said Superintendent Robert Graham. “We are confident that we will be able to resume normal operations soon.”
PCPS is encouraging parents and staff to be vigilant about cybersecurity. They should be wary of phishing emails and suspicious links. They should also use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication when possible.
