A Roanoke-based car dealership, the Berglund Management Group Inc., disclosed a data breach impacting over 50,000 individuals, as confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office of Maine.
The breach was identified after the company detected unauthorized access to a segment of its computer network. Although the external breach was discovered on October 26, it was later revealed that the intrusion occurred on May 10.
Approximately 51,514 individuals, including residents, were affected by this breach, exposing sensitive data such as names and social security numbers to potential hackers. Currently, there is no evidence of misuse of the accessed information, according to Berglund’s statement.
In response to the breach, the company issued written notices to potentially affected individuals on November 22. Additionally, Berglund is providing affected individuals with complimentary access to Single Bureau Credit Monitoring/Single Bureau Credit Report/Single Bureau Credit Score services. These services offer credit change alerts for a specified duration from enrollment.
Headquartered in Bedford, the Berglund Management Group, Inc. oversees 20 locations across Roanoke, Lynchburg, Bedford, and Salem, offering various car brands including Toyota, BMW, Kia, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, among others.
