The Cyber Security Council of the UAE has issued a “critical warning” regarding high-risk vulnerabilities in Google Chrome and multiple vulnerabilities found in Apple systems, urging users to promptly address these concerns.
The vulnerabilities detected within the Google Chrome web browser raise concerns about potential exploitation by malicious actors to execute harmful code on users’ operating systems, as stated in a communication from the council on Saturday, shared via X, formerly known as Twitter.
The advisory from the Cyber Security Council is clear: “We strongly recommend that all users promptly update their Chrome browsers to the latest version to shield against any possible threats.”
Google’s Chrome browser, boasting approximately 3.3 billion users, holds the title of the most widely used web browser across all platforms, including desktops, tablets, and mobile devices, commanding a substantial 65 percent share of the global market, according to Statcounter’s data.
Furthermore, the Cyber Security Council, in their Saturday announcement, alerted users to multiple vulnerabilities found in Apple systems, encompassing IOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and Safari. These vulnerabilities could potentially provide an avenue for attackers to gain control of users’ devices.
In response to these concerns, the council urged, “We strongly recommend that all users update their systems and software without delay to mitigate potential threats.”
Established by the UAE Cabinet in November 2020 in response to the escalating digital threats and cyberattacks, the Cyber Security Council bears the responsibility of formulating legislation to fortify cyber security, pending approval from the Cabinet.
