Fellowship Village, a Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based elderly services care provider, filed a data breach notice with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights.
The notice disclosed that unauthorized access was detected within the company’s computer network, potentially compromising sensitive consumer information. An investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to Fellowship Village’s systems between July 27, 2023, and August 9, 2023. The unauthorized party accessed specific files containing confidential consumer information during this period.
Preliminary information indicates suspicious activity was detected in Fellowship Village’s computer system around August 9, 2023. Upon realizing that sensitive consumer data had been compromised, Fellowship Village meticulously reviewed the compromised files to determine the extent of the breach and the consumers affected.
The data exposed may include a range of personal information, such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, patient identification numbers, medical records, treatment and diagnosis information, health insurance details, driver’s license or state identification numbers, financial account information, and dates of birth.
The official notice to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights cites the victims as “500.” In the wake of the breach, Fellowship Village undertook the task of identifying and notifying affected parties. Data breach notification letters have been sent to individuals whose information was potentially compromised during the incident.
The specific cause of the data breach is still under investigation, and more details are anticipated shortly. Fellowship Village has taken the proactive step of publishing a “Security Notice” on its website, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and addressing the issue.
