The West Central District Health Department (WCDHD) revealed a data breach occurring between May 18 and May 23, 2023, uncovering unauthorized access to segments of their network. The breach compromised sensitive information, including financial account numbers, social security numbers, driver’s license or state ID numbers, and patient names.
Promptly addressing the breach, WCDHD conducted a comprehensive review of potentially impacted data. Subsequently, measures were taken, including password changes and a thorough reassessment of data protection policies and procedures.
To support affected individuals, WCDHD is extending complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services. Those potentially impacted are urged to contact the dedicated assistance line at 1-800-405-6108, operational Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT, except holidays. In a statement, the Health Department emphasized the importance of vigilance against identity theft and fraud. They advised affected individuals to regularly review credit reports, account statements, and explanation of benefits forms for any suspicious activities or errors. Additionally, they highlighted the entitlement under U.S. law for individuals to obtain one free annual credit report from TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax through www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228.
