HBL CPAs, P.C. Discloses Data Breach Impacting Consumer Information

HBL CPAs, P.C., a reputable accounting firm headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, has reported a data breach incident to the Attorney General of Montana, uncovering unauthorized access to certain files stored on the company’s computer network. The breach, discovered on November 30, 2023, prompted immediate action from HBL, including securing its systems, notifying the FBI, and initiating an investigation into the incident.

Through their investigation, HBL determined that an unauthorized actor accessed their systems, including files containing sensitive consumer information. Following this discovery, HBL conducted a thorough review of compromised files to assess the extent of the breach and identify affected consumers. This process concluded on April 5, 2024.

On April 16, 2024, HBL CPAs began sending out data breach notification letters to individuals whose information was compromised in the incident. While the publicly available notice does not specify the type of information exposed, personalized letters sent to affected individuals will provide details on the data subject to unauthorized access.
