Securities America Reports Data Breach Through Unaffiliated Company

Securities America, Inc. (SAI) disclosed a recent data breach through a filing with the Attorney General of Vermont concerning McCord LLC, an unaffiliated entity registering its financial professionals with SAI. The breach allowed unauthorized access to sensitive consumer data, comprising names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and financial account details.

Following the investigation, SAI initiated the dispatch of data breach notification letters to individuals affected by the security incident. The breach originated from an unauthorized party gaining entry to an advisor’s email account in 2022. Despite the breach’s origin in the advisor’s email account, Securities America systems remained unaffected.

Upon discovering the compromised data accessibility, Securities America meticulously examined the breached files to determine the extent of leaked information and affected consumers. The breached information may include various personal details, notably names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information.

Letters notifying affected individuals were sent out on November 14, 2023, outlining the specific compromised information pertaining to each recipient.

Founded in 1984, Securities America, Inc., headquartered in la Vista, Nebraska, operates within the Advisor Group, now named Osaic, a network of independent wealth management firms situated in Phoenix, Arizona. Employing over 645 individuals, Securities America generates approximately $232 million in annual revenue.
